The Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is a four-door luxury sedan with a swooping roofline. In the process, Mercedes-Benz filled in a void in the luxury sedan market which made the CLS-Class quite popular. And why not, as the CLS with its frameless doors, sleek boot lid, tail lamps in the shaped like a scalene triangle and low roofline makes the car stand out of the crowd rather well. While the car’s large front grille with the big three pointed star mounted in the centre and the DRL equipped swept back headlamps grab eyeballs everywhere.
The Mercedes-Benz CLS is a four-door mid-size luxury coupe originally launched in 2004 and based on the W211 E-Class and was internally designated as the W219. The second generation CLS-Class was introduced in September 2010 and production started in the beginning of 2011.
It doesn't scream "look at me." It says "let's drive."
It's sleeker than ever, yet more elegant. More substantial in size, space and safety, yet lighter and more nimble. From the Star in its grille to the sculpture of its taillamps, it's a shape that says there's a new benchmark for luxury sport sedans. And in both luxury and sportiness, the experience upholds everything its style promises.
The C-Class is currently offered in a single C200 CGI variant which is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which churns out 181bhp and 300Nm of torque. The engine powers the rear through Mercedes-Benz’s tried and tested 7G-TRONIC PLUS gearbox. It accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 235kmph. Drivers can choose between Comfort, Economy, Sport, Sport+, or Individual driving modes, which adjust the engine, transmission and steering characteristics. We expect the diesel variants of the C-Class to be launched in March 2015.
The new C-Class is currently positioned above the new GLA-Class in the Mercedes-Benz line-up. It rivals the other luxury sedans like the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and the Volvo S60. Jaguar has also revealed its intentions of bringing the new XE sedan to the Indian market, which will also compete with the C-Class.
